Putting player welfare first
Safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do in rugby. Creating a safe, positive and inclusive environment allows all players to enjoy the game, develop their skills, and build confidence both on and off the pitch.

The Rugby Football Union (RFU) places safeguarding at the centre of the game and identifies the Club Safeguarding Officer as one of the sport’s key “Golden Roles” within every rugby club. These roles are considered essential to making sure rugby is run safely, responsibly and in line with best practice across the country.
To help make this happen, the club has a dedicated safeguarding officer, Andy Whiteman, and have recently appointed an assistant safeguarding officer Raphaelle Moysan. They play a vital role in ensuring that safeguarding policies and procedures are followed throughout the club. This includes supporting coaches and volunteers with safeguarding guidance, ensuring appropriate training and checks are in place, and acting as a point of contact for any safeguarding concerns.
Our safeguarding officers are there for players, parents, coaches and volunteers. If anyone has a concern about the wellbeing or safety of any player, they can speak confidentially with one of the safeguarding officers, who will ensure that the appropriate steps are taken in line with safeguarding procedures.
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. By working together—players, parents, coaches and volunteers—we can ensure that rugby remains a safe, welcoming and enjoyable place for everybody.
Supported Charities
The club is proud to support Mind, the mental health charity working to ensure that no one has to face a mental health problem alone. Rugby clubs are built on teamwork, friendship and community, and we believe those values extend beyond the pitch. By supporting Mind, we want to help raise awareness of mental health, encourage open conversations, and remind everyone in our club community that it’s always okay to ask for help. Together we can help create an environment where people feel supported, understood and able to look after both their physical and mental wellbeing.
