Hammers on the tele

On a sunny Sunday in May 36 players from Hammersmith & Fulham RFC descended on the Stoop, home of Harlequins RFC since 1963, to grace the playing field. On this occasion the players were there to put their acting skills, rather than playing skills to the test as the Hammers were asked to be extras in a comedy show for Channel 4 to be shown next year.

Without too much difficulty the guys fell into the roles of two opposing rugby teams. Unfortunately we can’t reveal too much about the show or the nature of the shoot so not to reveal the plot for the show. What we can tell you is that a full day of filming didn’t expose any diva’s in the squad with no outlandish demands or players disappearing off to their trailer in search of inspiration.

The shoot featured a number of scenes on and off the pitch revolving round a match day in Leeds, complete with capacity crowd, cheerleaders, children walking the teams onto the pitch and even a lion mascot decked out in Hammers kit. A couple of the more talented players will look forward to seeing there more starring roles.

The introduction to production for RDF television came through a Hammers club member and should bring about some welcome exposure for the current sponsors of our home and away kits, Chateau 6, Greene King IPA, Pagliaccio and Help for Heroes. RDF would also reward the club for it’s time as well as purchase some additional kit for the days extras. None of the players used were paid for the days work, as all funds raised will be put towards furthering the clubs offering of rugby to the local community.

We’re grateful to all the guys who gave up their free time to help with the filming and look forward to see the Hammers on the small screen some time soon. Here’s hoping that the final cut will show the boys in their best light, despite the lack of genuine northern accents!
