Bournemouth 7’s 2008
Words can’t describe
A new festival of rugby has hit the scene, Bournemouth 7s. And as with anything new and untested, the Generals sent in their best men and women to try it out!
40 Hammers found their way to this south coast sports club festival next to a sleep-depriving airport and a campsite absent of alcohol. We soon changed that.
Three teams (two men’s and one ladies’) entered the weekend’s rugby antics, as well as the Jacuzzi at every opportunity, but didn’t manage to make it past their respective quarter-finals. A few boys even played as ‘ringers’ for another Beer Cup side, helping them reach but lose their semi-final. Sly then found himself in Bournemouth A&E receiving a few stitches in his bottom lip as a permanent reminder of the 7s. The chosen fancy dress theme was Top Gun, complete with motorbike and soundtrack. Printed t-shirts were worn as pilots from Fulham embarked upon their tour of duty. But the real fun came when the flight suits were worn and the service men unleashed havoc! Particularly as the Patto Palace, complete with pool, Jacuzzi and large screen TV provided an oasis from the mischief was at the club’s disposal. The ladies ran the gauntlet as female Gladiators setting up their own competitive ‘Eliminator’.
The global Sunday theme was Baywatch, though if you asked Barry he would’ve convinced you it was drinking, and there was no rugby at all. The Hammers, one of the few teams to stay the entire weekend, took over the stage, VIP and made Bournemouth their own, leaving their indelible mark! As did Dillon, who decided to leave his stomach, at least the skin from it, on the festival floor taking body surfing to a new extreme! His battle scars forever his own memento of Bournemouth.
Thus begins the Legends of Bournemouth!
