Saracens B 39 Hammers 0
The under 13’s played their first match of the New Year against Saracens Amateurs RFC in Southgate, North London on a mild winters day.
The team started off the match at a disadvantage as only thirteen players had turned up for the match and had to borrow a player off the opposition to make a game of it. From the start the organised Saracens forwards put pressure on the Hammers defence, but good work by Raphael Fackler and Louis Depuy D’Angeac preventive the opposition from scoring early on in the game. But eventually Saracens did score the opening try after the Hammers missed a few tackles in middle of the pitch. The match continued in the same vain until half time with Saracens scoring two more tries without converting any of them making the score 15 – 0 to them at half time.
In the second half the Hammers nearly scored straight from the kick off when Alexandre Coyard picked up a loose ball just inside his own half and sprinted clear towards the try line to score a try it seemed, but somehow he dropped the ball when no one was around when he was running, so the chance was gone. The Hammers played some good rugby with new boy Sarchyn playing his first game for the team, making good ground by strong runs into the Saracens defence, supported by Henry Collins who had another good game.
But the extra man that the Saracens team had started to tell, along with the substitutions they made to bring on fresh legs to boost their play. This added pressure produced numerous tries for Saracens team late on in the game, making the final score was 39 -0.
The score at the end of the match did not reflect the strong performance the Hammers under 13’s team produced against a strong Saracens team that is in second place in the league, as they never gave up and tackled really well and made a game of it against a good Saracens side.
