Chairman's March Report

The 1st XV won one and lost three league matches this month and as it stands will be relegated from the London North One league this season, unless the two teams above them are deducted points due to administration errors, which is not really going to happen at this late stage in the season. Can’t say much, as it been on the cards for several weeks and was not helped by the team having to use over 60 different players during the season so far. No team in any of the RFU leagues was going mount a successful campaign, let along avoid relegation with those number of changes in personal during the season. Hopefully the team can regroup and bounce straight back into this league in September 2013.

The 2nd XV lost their undefeated mantle that this season in the Canterbury Shield league after lots of changes to their team, but are still top of the table will only a few games left. Rogan will be driving his players to maintain their winning ways for the rest of the season, so that they finish on a high.

Both the 3rd and 4th XV’s successfully qualified for the semi-final play-offs from their leagues and were convincing winners of each match to reach the Middlesex Merit Table finals at Wasps on the 15th April next month. Congratulations to both teams and their respective captains, Mike Gane and Adam Saul for achieving this and wish both of them the best in their quest to win the finals.

Felix Whitechapel’s 5th XV side enjoyed two very good wins this month against very strong opposition that bodes well for next season, when they will probably play in the Middlesex Merit Table leagues for the first time.

I must mention for the first time in these reports our ladies team, youth section and vet’s side.

Congratulations to our ladies team, who have been undefeated in any competition since Christmas and are now placed second in the RFUW South East One league. Also they have just won a place in the RFUW National Cup Final against Worcester RFC (to be played at Cleve RFC in Bristol on the 29th April), after beating Halifax RFC at home in the semi-final 57-5.

Our youth section has grown hugely this season with a lot of hard work being put in by the coaches and children to make it successful. This hard work has materialised in silverware being won at several festivals and tournaments this season by the majority of the aged groups. Well done to everyone who has been involved from parents, children and volunteers in making it such an enjoyable part of the club.

Finally, the vet’s team under the leadership of Chris Hunt have had their most successful season so far, drinking large amounts of port on and off the field of play with Ali Lines, Barry O’Sullivan and Alex Sterling adding some much needed youthful look to the team.

Terry Alleyne

Chairman's February Report

Due to the wintery conditions early in the month only a few of games by any of the men’s sides in February.

The 1st XV played a better standard of rugby in the two games that they played, but still lost those matches to remain in relegation zone of the league. With time running out the team must now look to put a winning run together to move up the table.

In the Canterbury Shield the 2nd XV are still unbeaten and look to have secured the top spot unless they lose several of the remaining games, which is unlikely to happen if they keep playing the way they have been, since the beginning of the season.

The 3rd and 4th XV’s play hardly any rugby in this period, but both teams are on course to qualify for the Middlesex Merit Tables semi-final play-offs in March.

Felix Whitechapel’s 5th XV carried on were they left off in the previous month by winning there only game.

Terry Alleyne

Chairman's January Report

Nothing has changed in the 1st XV’s battle against relegation as they lost all four league games in January, one of those being against fellow strugglers North Walsham, which was a major blow to the team and missing out on a valuable win against Ruislip, in a game they should have won. They now have to dig deep and have the belief that they can win a few on the remaining games, to give themselves a chance of staying in this competitive league.

The 2nd XV have continued their great run of being undefeated so far this season, which is a great testament to all the players who have made this side such a formidable unit, in the Canterbury Shield league.

With so few games in the 3rd and 4th XV’s this month, it has been difficult for the teams to maintain the winning momentum, but they are both still on track to get to the Middlesex Merit Table play offs.

The 5th XV are still enjoying a successful time with new players still joining the team every week, which is really good as everyone is enjoying their rugby in this side.

Next months team results will be very important to the club, as they will decide who will qualify for the home matches in Canterbury Shield or Middlesex league play-offs. The

1st XV need to improve on their present league position in the London North One.

Terry Alleyne

Chairman's December Report

The 1st XV unfortunately lost all three games this month, which means they will have to win a large majority of their remaining games, if they are to stay in the London North One League next season. The team is playing well in patches, but need to reproduce this high standard of play throughout the remaining games left in the season. Hopefully some of the large number of 1st XV players on the injury list will be returning to full fitness in the next few weeks, to strengthen squad for the final push up the league table, which Mark Blyghton aspects in the next few months.

The 2nd XV can’t seem to stop winning at the moment, keeping their undefeated run going with excellent performances that sees them top the Canterbury Shield League. I know their captain Andrew Rogan will be looking to maintain this good run, right through until the end of the season.

Captain Mike Gane has every right to be happy with the form of his 3rd XV players as they are still on track to qualify for the merit table play offs as winners of their league, even after the number of changes to his side ever week due to unavailability of players from teams higher up the club.

The 4th XV are scoring a large number of tries in every match and are still holding top spot in their merit table league. They are looking to win the competition at the end of the season and I doubt Adam Saul the captain, will accept anything less from his side by the end of the campaign.

Felix Whitechapel has kept the 5th XV playing exciting open rugby all season that all his players are enjoying. Also he is keeping the club spirit going with good old fashion H & F RFC socialising after games, with the opposition.

The club is doing well overall, but the 1st XV need to pick up some wins with additional try bonus points over the next few months, to consolidate their position higher up the league.

Terry Alleyne

Chairman's November Report

It’s been a great month for all men’s senior sides throughout the club.

The 1st XV produced great displays in their two London One league matches, winning one and narrowly loosing the other. It was the first time they have fielded a nearly unchanged team in consecutive games, which was what the captain and coaches have been trying to achieve all season, as they knew this would lead to better results in the league campaign.

Their was no stopping the 2nd, 3rd and 4th XV teams from maintaining the top spots in their merit table leagues, with strong performances from all sides. A good blend of players, are in these teams that are competing at a very high level every weekend. They is a long way to go before the teams qualify for the play offs in March 2012, but they are on the right track to meet this objective.

The 5th XV once again have had some fantastic results over the month, playing good rugby which quite a few of the players moving up into the higher sides on merit.

As a club we are still attracting new players, which is a good sign as it shows that our internal and external recruitment structures are working well.

We are now moving into the difficult month of December where the numbers attending training and the availability of players always drops off due to the up and coming festivities, but with the our outstanding performances over the last few weeks, I can see another successful month ahead for all sides, as we have players who are committed to the club cause and want to play at the highest level possible.

Terry Alleyne

Chairman's October Report

It’s been a very difficult month for the 1st XV having won just one game in this period out of five. The most worrying thing for the team is amount of points they are conceding in each match to opponents and also the lack of stability in the team selection, due to non availabilities and injuries. But the results for the other teams in the league this month has been surprising in some cases, so there is still a chance that the 1st XV will be able to stay in this highly competitive league next season, if they can put a good run of results together over the next few months.

The 2nd XV are still undefeated this season and are playing very good rugby in all their games. New players are coming through the team that might push for a 1st XV place, which bodes well for the club.

There have been a mix of good and bad results in the 3rd XV and 4th XV teams in the past month, but both teams are doing well in the Middlesex Merit Table, which is the most important aspect for each side.

The 5th XV have suffered from selection issues in teams above that have reduced the number of players available to the side, which has meant they suffered during this period. But with new players still joining the team, they expect to get back to winning the majority of their games.

Terry Alleyne

Chairman's September Report

Another season has started in the bright sunny weather, and from the numbers of new players attending training throughout September, I am looking forward to the club once again achieving great things by the end of April 2012.

Having won all their league games last season in London North West 2, the 1st XV have found that the standard of rugby and fitness levels required to win matches in London North 1 is much higher. But the team has shown glimpses in the four games already played that they can compete at this level and win a large majority of the remaining league matches.

The second team has made an impressive start to the season winning all their friendly and Zoo Shield League games so far. Playing in The Shield rather than the Middlesex Merit Table is hoped to give the players in the 2nd XV a higher standard of rugby, so that if they are needed to replace players in the 1st XV for one reason or another, its not a too big of a step up for them to make. A great start to the season and let’s hope they can maintain the present momentum right through the season.

Our 3rd XV is making good progress in producing a very strong team that should compete well in its Middlesex Merit Table leagues this season, which they hope too win come the end of April 2012. Captain Mike Gane is blending together a good strong squad of new and old players that have the potential to achieve their goal by the end of April 2012.

It’s been a challenging time for the 4th XV and captain Adam Saul, with quite a few of last season’s senior players being unavailable for one reason or another, but it is slowly coming together with the influx of new and exciting players filling the gaps, and I expect them to be once again fighting for a place at the Middlesex Merit Table play-offs and hopefully the final, where anything can happen.

It’s been a great start to the season for the 5th XV with a mix of new recruits and a few veterans playing social rugby. A few of the new players in this team, have now progress up into 3rd and 4th XV’s and the team is proving to be a good stepping stone for new members to find their feet at the club under the guidance of team captain, Felix Whitechapel.

Terry Alleyne
